East Morton or Fardew is a real gem of a 9 hole golf course

Let’s start by saying if you’ve come to this course expecting decent facilities, then turn around now. The ‘clubhouse’ is a large portacabin but there are toilets, changing rooms and even club hire available. There are several buggies for hire, a small putting practice green, and 2 nets to practice your swing before tee off.

Don’t let the sparseness of this club put you off as there is a warm welcome here and the course makes up for the lack of a great first impression. If you like your golf over the quality of the coffee then you are in the right place.

A golf course set in the stunning region of Aire Valley, Bradford

The course is situated across a valley and plays on quite a steep hill, but in saying that, there are only 2 holes where you will feel this on your knees, the course design is very well crafted to accommodate this.

What you will love about this course is the backdrop for most holes as you have this stunning Yorkshire rolling hill in the distance which transports you back in time. There is even a canal that runs to the left-hand side of Hole #3 and if you are lucky you will see a few canal boats & barges pass you by.

For a no-frills clubhouse we saw plenty of ground staff out on the course, tending to the bunkers, cleaning the fairway and making sure that the quality was second to none, and this does make a huge difference, especially on the final 100 yards.

A hole to remember

Hole #7 is a 482 yard, Par 5, dog leg right. The tee is situated at the highest elevation on the course and from the tee box your fairway is incredibly thin with not just 1 but 2 mature twin series of trees directly down the middle of the fairway.

This hole has 4, yes 4 different tier levels that keep dropping lower and lower the further you get towards the hole. The best place to aim for from the tee box is to the right edge, and then hope that you catch one of these huge slopes and the bounce goes in your favour.

The green size is incredibly generous, there is a water hazard that runs across the fairway approx 120 yards from the green and there is also a bunker guarding the left hand side. When we played here the greens were all immaculate and ran fast and true.
