Summary
For a course situated in the heart of an urban area, this offers great value for money with plenty of challenging and varied holes. The greens and fairways maybe not be 100% perfect but the experience and enjoyment is definitely here and well worth the visit.

Just 3 miles from Leeds City Centre
Nestled in Armley, this hidden golf course is the true definition of real value for money. The club shop is situated in a Grade II listed building, it’s basic but well-stocked, with club hire available. The staff are lovely and are always on hand to help with advice or just for a friendly chat. There’s a putting green in front of the club house and a driving range field to the right.
Please note that the range is a field and there are no buckets of ball to purchase so you will be practicing and hitting your own balls, so going for the driver on this field means a long walk to collect your balls.
A real mix of golf challenges
The course is split across two sides of the club shop, with holes 1 to 5 on the left and the remainder to the right. The left-hand side plays down and up a huge hill so be aware that some level of fitness/ability is required. The remaining holes are ‘steady away’ and will offer a nice variation of design from hole to hole. There’s a great chance for a hole in one through holes 12 to 14, with 3 par 3’s all side by side on a slope, but be careful as a stray slice or hook shot will find you chasing the ball downhill.
A hole to remember
This Leeds course doesn’t name its holes but if it did, then hole #5 would be aptly named ‘heart attack hill’. This 313-yard par 4 straight hole is the most challenging in terms of fitness and accuracy.
The most challenging aspect of this hole is the huge summit covered in rough & dense grass. You need to lay up at the base of this hill and aim to clear the 120-yard climb or face hacking into this mess uphill. Either way, whatever you shoot there’s the walk up the hill which is a total killer on the back and knees!
When you finally make it up the hill (breathe again and take in the view!) you are faced with a fast green with a deadly dip so your ball position whilst blind was essential.
It was a lovely area but I was extremely mortified by the children of some of the members of the golf club. Extremely... arrogant, pompous and disgustingly disrespectful. Me and my partner got lost as we searched for the manor and following the advice from a local we were directed to follow a foot path and walk towards the manor. Upon starting our small trek we encountered 4 children ranging from 7 - 10 who were screaming obscenities to us and launched a golf ball towards our heads (intended assault). The boys then began to follow us to the manor still shouting potty mouth words at us and threatening us with their golf clubs (that I’m assuming ‘papa’ gave them). It was not until I had threatened to call the police that the boys laid off. I was left feeling completely terrified - and some may laugh and think as grown ups how could you be afraid of children - but it’s an extremely dangerous situation when as an unarmed civilians you are threatened with metal golf sticks and shown this intent to harm by having a golf ball launched at one’s head it becomes very clear that you are vulnerable . This was truly upsetting and disappointing, that these children were raised in an environment where they were not taught to be respectful of others and mind their own business.I would heartily implore the golf club owners to ensure that children are not left unattended on their fields to harass and taunt elderly folk looking to enjoy their timeNever againread more
