A fine example of an 18 hole golf course with exceptional service and overall facilities including a driving range, 2 golf shops and onsite clubhouse with food and drinks.
Overview
Summary
Argueably one of the best golf courses in Yorkshire in terms of value for money, quality of course and level of challenge.
One of the best 18 hole golf courses in Harrogate and North Yorkshire.
This is a 6531 Par 72, 18 hole golf course with multiple 5 star ratings. Conveniently located near Harrogate, Leeds, and York, the Championship Hawtree Course offers a true examination of golfing prowess for players of all levels.
This course felt huge and was backed up by the number of buggies we saw on the fairways when we were playing golf. It probably didn’t help that we had just played the Repton Course before teeing off for this one, but we would still recommend a buggy or a trolley as this feels like a long but quality golf course.
A golf destination rather than a golf course
This course has the luxury of offering visitors a wide range of choices from a driving range to warm up before your start, a 6-hole bespoke course based around the best 6-hole courses from around the world, a fully stocked golf store and a smaller store, a clubhouse selling great food and drinks, then finally an 18 hole golf course… Phew !!!! The fish finger sandwich was amazing and the service was first-class.
As mentioned or recommended there is a large abundance of hireable trolleys and carts from basic 2 wheel, to 3 wheel electric trolleys to full buggies, but we would recommend that you ring ahead of your booking to make sure you can secure a golf buggy.
A hole to remember
Hole #4 is a dogleg right 443 Yard Par 4 which starts from an elevated tee book with the green hidden by several mature oak trees.
The dogleg breaks at around the 280 yard mark so a decent drive off the tee box is essential to have clear sight of the green. Beware of the elevated area to the left of the fairway around the 270 yard mark, as this will create an awkward ball bounce from the drive.
A good drive gives you the perfect chance and view towards the slightly sloping green. Aiming to the right of the flag pole is the best option but be careful of the family cemetery which is directly behind the green, and is a booby trap due to its stone wall and thick dense grassland.
If you have missed the the water feature on the left of the green you are faced with a relatively flat green albeit from the left side which slightly slopes down towards the water. This green is a thing of beauty and has such a picturesque backdrop of the mini-lake to the left and behind the conference centre and wedding chapel looking back up towards the tee box.
