A lovely and very friendly 9 hole golf course hidden away in South Bradford.
Overview
Summary
A real gem of a 9 hole course in Odsal, Bradford.
A proud Golf history dating back to 1906
The course originally was in a different location of Bradford, in the area of little Horton, the members then set their sights on a bigger area of land and moved to the current location in 1917 for the princely rentable sum of £25 for 7 holes. They then developed a further two holes and today is what you can find for their efforts.
The club has a series of core values of respect; friendliness; openness; honesty, equity and Integrity and we can confirm that on our visit everyone we met and spoke to were so eager to help and chat to us around the course it was genuinely a real pleasure to play at this course.
The club also embraces the initiatives of ‘Get into Golf’, helping the community by offering flexible memberships, school interactions to encourage juniors to join and also help with people getting back into golf with free lessons.
A golf course you want to return to, again and again…
The course is designed across a large hillside, it’s longest hole is the hole #1 (a Par 5 517 yard hole) with a straight blind drive down to the edge of the hillside. Hole #2 is a real treat and is followed by an outrageous dogleg right for hole #3. Going direct across and over the trees the the perfect reward and can land you directly onto the green. Holes #4 & # 5 play back up the hillside and stretch out the play with considerable yardage of 417 & 365 back to back.
Holes #6 & #7 & #8 are all again of a considerable size totally nearly 1000 yards across 3 Par 4’s and another blind dogleg right! The final hole is a nice Par 3 144 yards back to the clubhouse and takes into play their water feature to the right of the hole. It goes without saying that aiming to the right of the green is the perfect lie with a showboat putt in front of the clubhouse to sink that birdie and claim the applause from onlookers.
A hole to remember
Hole #2 is arguable one of the nicest par 3 holes in West Yorkshire (in our humble opinion).
The 212 yard hole starts from an elevated position with a narrow target area, hit it short and you will be in the beck out of bounds, or left / right and you’re in trouble in wooded area.
The hole is on multi tiers and has a series of dry ditches hidden in the folds of the fairway which are only discovered on approach.
3 huge sets of bunkers protect this ample green but don’t go too far as the back of the green slopes away and you’ll be stuck chipping back onto the green for a tricky par.
