Rules of scramble in Golf

March 11, 2024

Scramble is a popular golf tournament format that is often used for charity and corporate events. Here are the basic rules of the Scramble:

Teams: The Scramble is typically played with teams of two or four players.

Tee off: All players tee off on each hole.

Selecting the best drive: The team then selects the best drive and all players play their next shot from that spot.

Alternate shot: The team then alternates shots until the ball is holed.

Scoring: The team’s score for the hole is the total number of strokes taken by the team to complete the hole.

Handicaps: Handicaps are typically used to level the playing field, each player’s handicap is used and the best net score is taken for the team.

Maximum strokes: A maximum number of strokes is typically set for each hole, if the team’s score exceeds that number, they are considered to have “busted” the hole and they must pick up their balls and move on to the next hole.

Mulligans: Mulligans are not typically allowed in a Scramble tournament.

Ties: In case of a tie, a sudden-death playoff is typically used to determine the winner.

Prize: The team with the lowest score at the end of the round wins the tournament.

It’s important to note that these rules are general guidelines, and that every tournament may have different variations or specific rules. It’s best to check with the tournament organizer to confirm the rules before starting to play.
