Rules for Skins game in Golf

April 9, 2024

The Skins game is a golf tournament format where players compete for a cash prize on each hole. Here are the basic rules of the Skins game:

Pairings: Players are paired up in head-to-head matches, or in a group of players.

Scoring: Instead of counting total strokes, players earn a cash prize for winning each hole, also known as a “skin.” If multiple players tie for the lowest score on a hole, the skin carries over to the next hole.

Prize allocation: Prize money is typically divided among the players according to the number of skins they win.

Handicaps: Handicaps are typically not used in Skins games, but some tournaments may allow for them with a certain format.

Maximum strokes: A maximum number of strokes is typically set for each hole, if the player’s score exceeds that number, they are considered to have “busted” the hole and they do not win the skin for that hole.

Ties: In case of a tie, the skin carries over to the next hole.

Prize: The player with the most skins at the end of the round wins the tournament.

It’s important to note that these rules are general guidelines, and that every tournament may have different variations or specific rules. It’s best to check with the tournament organizer to confirm the rules before starting to play. Additionally, some variations of the Skins game include Modified skins, and Nassau skins, where skins can be won on the front 9, back 9 and 18 holes.
