Stunning views of Fulneck Valley and Tong Hall
This course is a bit tricky to find but very rewarding with its amazing vistas of the Vallery and surrounding hills. Established well over a century ago this historic course is well worth the visit.
Hills, spills, and thrills
8 of the 9 holes are on built on hills making every shot difficult as it’s never a level footing shot. The most grueling of all the holes is easily the 9th where there is a blind tee-shot then a huge uphill approach with the green on the left (not to mention the clubhouse watching your progress!).
Fitness is a must for this course and you can easily tire yourself out so pack light, course management is an absolute must, and conserve all your energy especially if you plan to play the full 18.
A hole to remember
Hole #5, is a 364 yeard par 4 slight dog leg left which is nestled in the Fulneck Valley. Aim to the right-hand side of the fairway so you will have a clear view of the hole for your 2nd shot but be warry of the slope as there is very thick rough next to the 4th tee.
You don’t want to hook your shot as it’s deep woods with a stream running all the way up the left of the course.
Smack bang in the middle of the course is a huge oak tree, and also a footpath running across the middle of the course so please keep your eyes out!
Your second approach shot is very doable as this is the most generous green in size for the whole course, it has 4 bunkers protecting it (3 on the right), with a slight slope left to right so a decent green read is a must to get that birdie!
Decent course, testing walk.Course is in pretty good condition. Not particularly challenging for medium/long hitters... with a driver not required on any holes.Good variety of par 3s and a couple of drivable par 4s.2nd/11th and 9th/18th are very severely uphill which will be challenging to walk for unfit/older golfers (we’re talking a good 70m elevation change in one hole. I’m fit and was out of puff by the end).Greens in decent condition, fairly paced for February. Winter tees among the best I’ve played. Can imagine the 5th/14th is a nightmare in-season/on weekends due to walkers/runners/dogs as a public right of way runs the whole length of the hole & across it.Would be a good course for beginners/shorter hitters but it’s a hard walk.read more

For location with a view, you can't beat it. Drinks and food are reasonable. On this occasion we waited quite a while... for our food which eventually arrived only just warm. We ate it anyway as we had waited so long and were hungry. We will visit again however as we like the location and its pleasent to sit outside.read more
Fabulous...An off the cuff visit today with our dog a very large 16th month old male Rotti. We received a very warm... welcome sat out side under cover comfy seats had a light lunch, which was very reasonable. Amazing views over the valley.Plus I was able yo obtain some painting to celebrate the platinum jubilee. They has trimmed up so nicely. Loads if outside seating available. The staff and service the most friendliest we have come across in a long time.We shall certainly return.Wish I'd taken pictures of the amazing views.read more
I have heard lots of great things about the new food menu, two main meals for £15 so went today with three others.The... venue itself could do with updating , it felt a little dated but had the usual golf club feel. The staff were very welcoming and attentive.A good selection on the menu choices .The beef baguette and home made chips was really good, as was the ploughman's, the Cesar salad was ok just lacked a little in flavour, finally the gyros chicken was disappointing with scrappy bits of chicken. All in all , we would return again there was a lovely friendly atmosphere.read more

Fabulous course, some quite unforgiving fairways due to terrain of the course, but the greens and fairways are... immaculate, in fact, the rough here is better than the fairways on some courses!read more
