A 9 hole golf course 5 miles north of Doncaster
Designed in 1988 by Michael Parker this 9 hole course that is situated in 80 acres of parkland just outside the village of Owston.
Holes #1 thru to #3 are probably the most iconic where they face the stunning vista of Owston hall. The remainder of the holes are played across the Hall driveway on a separate field. From #4 onwards the holes open up and get longer with four Par 4’s, one Par 3 and a 471 yard Par 5 to challenge your driving abilities.
A good starting course for beginners and high handicappers
For the cost of around £8 this has to be one of the best value for money in the Doncaster area. The course is well maintained but obviously if you were to compare this to an 18 hole course there is a drop in quality of greens and fairways which is why this course is brilliant for new starters or golfers with a high handicap wanting to perfect their game.
A hole to remember
Hole #5 is the longest hole on this course which is a Par 5 471 yard slight dogleg right.
The green can’t be seen from the tee box so aim to the left hand side of the huge oak tree, anyone slicing this drive will face a line of tress as this hole forces you into one direction past the large oak tree.
The green is protected at the right, left and rear with a set of mature trees so accuracy on approach shot is essential to try and gain a par on this hole.
Nice course, a few of the holes are unachievable unless you can hit it long.Tee boxes need mowing (very poor), greens... in excellent condition.Excellent value for money cost-wise, but will never be one of my favorite courses because of the long approaches to blind holes.EDIT: 17/06/23.I am now hitting the ball a little longer but still not reaching the dog leg at 5 or 8.To me 8 should be a par 5 off the yellow (social) tees.read more
What a lovely 9 hole golf course. Friendly staff and a very nice course. Nice wide fairways and some challenging holes... make it ideal for everyone from new golfers like myself to people who have been playing years. It can get busy so I would recommend calling before going in to check availability.read more
Lovely 9 hole course. Cracking value at £8.20 for juniors. Ample parking, friendly staff. Entrance was tricky to find... first time as it isn't in the village. Go around the edge of the village and take the Carcroft road. There is a small country lane that feeds off this. The golf course is the second entrance (the first one is for the Hall).read more
