A Pedigree of Golf Course Design
Designed by American golf architect, Karl Litten in 1997 (who is also responsible for the Emirates Club in Dubai) his vision for this club incorporates many of the natural features of the surrounding countryside.
There are 4 Par 5’s and 4 Par 3’s on this course, the first nine holes feel quite compact are very challenging, there are some very strategically placed water hazards and well placed placed bunkers early on so a trip to the driving range to warm up is essential. The standout hole which sums up the front nine would probably be hole #6 which is a Par 3 165 Yard drive over an 450 foot lake.
The back nine settles down dramatically and allows more forgiveness but please don’t left that fool you, the challenge is still here with two back to back Par 5’s that will break the best golfers then to finish there is the iconic 18th coming back to the historic club house.
An extra special golf experience
The clubhouse dates back to the 18th century with its stunning architecture, the bar and outdoor area offers the perfect scene to watch golfers on the #18th tackle the icon water feature. Inside the club house there is an impressive bar menu, from sandwiches, main meals to Sunday lunches & Buffets. The clubhouse boasts locally sourced produce and inhouse chef’s homemade specialities are very popular with the locals.
A hole to remember
This course saves the best hole for last.
Hole #18, is a 275 yard par 4 dog leg left with a blind island green heavily protected by water and is accessibly by a small bridge.
You can chose to hit your big dog and aim to the right of the green but beware that there is a small water ditch to the right and if you land in there it’s a definite penalty drop.
Alternatively you can play sensible and hit a lower iron and play it short, both options leave you with a testing chip over the water and hopefully onto the green ready for putting !!!
