The oldest Golf Course in Leeds
This course history dates back to 1890 (which forms the current top nine of the present course), with the famous golf architect, Doctor Alister Mackenzie being a member between 1900 & 1910. It is stated that he gave his advice on bunkers and the layout of the course. For those that don’t know who Alastair Mackenzie is, he has influenced the design of some of the most prestigious courses including St.Andrews, Troon, Royal Melbourne and Augusta National.
Leeds Golf Club is also home to the ‘Leeds Cup’ which is the oldest trophy in professional golf worldwide ! So playing at this course, you are literally stepping back in time and adding to the legacy of this truly great club.
A hole to remember
Hole #7, is a 385 yard par 4 with a valley fairway leading up to a risen green which is protected by bunkers.
What’s nice about this hole is that we approach this from the tee box at a high level and the fairway slopes down so any clean drive sees the ball potentially within 50 to 100 yards from the green (pending on your distances).
The green is protected left and right but there is a clean approach direct and a simple chip shot sees you putting for birdie!
