A well established mature golf course

A well-designed course with many of the 27 holes being tree-lined, making this a real mature course and a challenge for all levels of golfer. Spread across 300 acres with multiple doglegs and contours, each hole has its own uniqueness, offering a real memorable round of golf.

After your round, why not wander into the stunning golf house called the claret jug, with a fully licensed bar and viewing terrace to watch the golfers as they come back up the 18th, or relax inside and watch sports TV. If golf isn’t your thing then there’s the 4-star hotel on-site with a pool, spa, restaurant, and cocktail bar.

If you need to brush up on your swing there is a 12 bay Nike golf driving and chipping range located to the back of the clubhouse next to the main car park and hole #1.

If this golf course has one failure, it would be that the drainage and irrigation need serious attention as there are several holes during the wet / winter periods where a heavy rain session can make the fairways and greens sometimes boggy or unplayable.

A hole to remember

Our favourite hole is the iconic #24 which is a Par 4 365 yards from the white tees. The tee is in a high position with views across Rothell & Oulton, with the stunning hotel and icon church in the distance. The large green is defended by a fishing lake on the right-hand side and a small water channel running across the fairway feeding the lake.

A measured drive is needed for this hole, either lay up short of the lake to the middle or try and push further down the left-hand side (but whatever you do stay away from the right-hand side rough or selection of cottages). Pending on which choice you make it’s either an 8 or 9 iron chip over the lake or a wedge from the left. Be careful as there’s thick rough / trees to the back of the green and there is a hidden bunker to the left, so precision is key if you want to go for birdie on this hole.

Driving range was amazing until they changed the payment system, now it’s awful. Turned up without knowing it had... changed then had to sign up online and book a slot for half an hour in future as that was the closest I could book. I then couldn’t get the balls until 15 minutes before my allocated time and then the screen just never worked at all despite me booking, the screen said there was no booking at this time. No staff around and tried calling the club 5 times but no answer so I had to play without the screen despite paying an extra charge when booking to use it. Also you only get a one hour slot to use your 100 balls then someone else could have a booking so you’re kicked off, not sure about others but I’ve never hit 100 balls in 1 hour when on my own, usually takes around 1hr 15min so then you’re just forced to throw away any balls you have left. Ridiculous system and it’s completely ruined the best range around.read more

**Driving Range has been ruined**When the Driving Range first introduced Trackman it was the best Driving Range in the... area by far, however i turned up the other night off cuff to just hit a few balls, and noticed the payment method had changed. You have to create an account, book a time slot online, then wait, the balls won't dispense until 15 mins before your time slot, then i was stood for 15 minutes in the bay i'd booked waiting for the screen to work as the screen only becomes active within the time slot you have booked. The play as guest option is no longer available, so once again you have to faff about scanning QR codes to link the screen to your account before it will work. Then once you are using the screen you have a timer counting you down until the screen goes off at the end of your alloted time, regardless of if you've used all your balls or not.So what was a quality Range has now been completely ruined, which other users on the night agreed and said they would go elsewhere in future also.Very dissappointing, So until it changes again i'll be opting to take the extra drive and use the Leeds Golf Centre Top Tracer Range instead like before.**So avoid at all costs if you just simply want to turn up and hit some balls as thats no longer an option!!**read more

I would give the driving range zero stars now if I could. The new trackman system has been put in (when it works) but... now you can’t just turn up and hit a few balls after work. You have to book in advance with at least 30mins notice, you can’t get the golf balls until your time is due and what’s worse, the booking doesn’t always come up on the screens and the connection doesn’t work to play the courses. If you use the allocated balls, you can’t get anymore in the time slot. Such a poor experience, and the price?!?! £12.50 for a large basket AND a booking fee to pay online!! You lot are taking the p*** out of your customers.read more

The driving range was so nice when they changed it. But they’ve changed the payment method, not only is it almost... double the price of anywhere else, you can no longer just turn up and pay, you have to book it through the app 30 minutes before so if you plan on hitting a few balls after work I wouldn’t bother, in the time it’s taken me to sort out my basket pay 12.50 plus the admin fee. 8 people have just walked away due to not being able to use it like any other range and the driving range is dead. Unfortunately such a great facility will now lose so much money from daft systems that don’t work.read more

Driving range has recently been updated with trackman screens and data, however as the range and bays are good, trying... to get balls and a bay to hit them has suddenly required the most over engineered system ever!!! I don’t want to have to create an account, I don’t want to have to book a bay, I don’t need to be sent a QR code, I don’t need to try and scan it to get my balls…what the hell!! After 100 balls I decided to get more, I couldn’t as the bay I was in, had been booked afterwards so I either had to book another bay and move or go! I went!! Please remember people who decided to do this, ‘I’m only hitting balls into a field…!’ The toilets are full of spiders and mosquitoes and the coffee machine could do with a clean once in a while !!read more

Greens had been hollow tined and heavily sanded, and the position of cups didn’t look as though they’d been changed in... ages , the semi rough just off fairways are a nightmare and need a second cut at least . Pricing buggies at £35 is really steep most clubs charge tops £25 plus ours ran out of charge and chugged back thankfully the staff were understanding and refunded it, the staff were great , just a bit more care on golf course would be appreciated .read more

Just returned from a golf break at Oulton Hall Spa & Golf complex. The only positive about our visit is that our room... was  lovely - evening meal delicious and served by a very attentative waitress;  good breakfast too.Overall impression of the  27-hole course - absolutely DIRE -   definitely lacking maintenance.  Ladies, in mid July, having to tee off from very small rock solid plastic mats surrounded by a wooden frame in many cases and very poor tee grounds. Confused about playing off blue tees but according to the pro shop the reason being, playing winter course as they're still waiting for the course to be re-measured??  Hence the winter score cards we were given that were kept under the counter !!1st day played 19-27 and 1-9 holes teeing off at noon.  2nd day played 1 - 18 holes teeing off at 10am.  Upon arriving at the tee,  4 men in process of teeing off ;  2-ball waiting to tee at their given time of 10am and then another 2-ball arrived behind our 4-ball, with a tee time of 10 am  !!!!!!!!! At conclusion of round spoke to the 2 ladies behind us who were members and they were very pleased that we had complained to the pro shop about condition of the course especially the ladies teeing area and number of groups for a 10am tee time.  Needless to say will NOT BE RETURNING. Didn't have time to take photos as we were walking and everyone else in buggies.read more

Mixed Weekend golf break. The only positive is that the rooms provided were lovely, and the evening dinner (in the... clubhouse) was quite good. The golf bar was understaffed causing lengthy queues, the bacon sandwiches were appalling, cold and tasteless and tea and coffee lukewarm. As you have waited so long for it, you have no time to send it back. The prices are incredible, and prices are increased from those shown on the menus,on Saturdays and Sundays, with nothing visible to show that. £38+ for 4 lukewarm coffees and 4 stone cold bacon sandwiches. The golf course is very poor, ladies having to tee off from rock solid mats in many cases, poor tee boxes and overgrown semi rough with dead cut grass on top, leading to lengthy rounds and many lost balls. The overall impression of the course is one of poor maintenance and generally not properly cared for.On day 2, Bank Holiday Monday, there was only one girl serving in the golf bar, and she had to serve all the food too, so there were long queues and lukewarm food again. Also the discount we were supposed to be to have on food and drink, wasn't available as we had checked out. We had to check out by 11.00 am, so it stands to reason that it would be later than that after playing.ALL IN ALL A COMPLETE RIP OFF. WE WILL NOT BE BACK, BUT I SUSPECT THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS.read more

Great 27 hole golf course that has improved throughout this year the new management seem to be trying to return the... course to its former glory, some of the tees especially near the woodland are bare soil and need repair over winter but this seems to be happening, 1-18 takes you away and around the grounds whilst 19-27 is slightly harder and skirts around the hall itself. The driving range is going through extensive renovation and trackman is going to be available soon . Limited parking spaces near the range and shop that gets filled quickly but there is a large car park behind the hall which is a short walk. There appears to be large amounts of dog walkers using the fairways and bunkers as a free for all which is not ideal and this should really be managed as a point of safety .read more

Sadly a one star well overpriced @ £40 a round and £35 for a buggy, if your going to charge a premium price have a... premium golf course. Poor T's and the greens are shocking all been spiked so your ball goes all over. Tthe price at driving range about 20 balls for £4, no bar, no food said they were about to refurbish the bar/food bit but it was just unmanned. I have been numerous times and paid mid-week £15/£18/£20 on tee-off-times/golfnow. I won't be paying that price again £40 mid-week that's a weekend price so goodbye Oulton hall stick o your Range Rover customers wiling to pay that much for an average course and awful greens!read more

This is now an 18 hole course and the layout has changed a little. Leeds City Council have reduced the holes and... focused on the course conditions. The greens are 100% better than what they were about a month ago which is a credit to the green keepers. The greens are reasonably fast and generally in good condition. There is still work to do but the course is well worth the green fee.read more

A truly poor place. Spent 2 days ringing to book a round, no one answers the phone. Called in person to book to find... they have the phone on mute, the lad who took the booking couldn't have been less interested if he tried. The manager is obsessed with forever remodeling 'His shop ',as he was in a previous visit. Arrived for our round to find the same lad who took our booking got the price wrong and had not put down we booked a buggy. Gave my partner a key and told him a number, which was not there, and after revisiting the shop said take any buggy, (we don't know which is charged)couldn't drag his lazy arse to show us. To busy waiting on a muted phone ringing .I've visited many golf courses over England and abroad and there is always a warm welcome and direction to your buggy. This place needs a course in professionalism. Never visit again and would tell anyone to spend their money elsewhere. Plus side the ground staff have the course in very good condition and are friendly, unlike the members who were also truly ignorant to people in a buggy and wouldn't let us 'play through ',and expected us to follow them round at a walking snail's pace. Never Again. Avoid this place.read more

Disappointing sadly. Course is a great layout with 27 holes giving varied options. However tees were appalling. Was... like teeing up in a bunker and very uneven. Bare patches everywhere. I overheard the green keeper in the car park, he was walking with young daughter and bragging to her that he'd cut all 27 greens in a record 3.5 hrs and it was going up on 'the board'. His lack of care showed, bumpy uneven greens. The clubhouse provided poor slow service, I was at bar alone with 3 staff behind. Two just walked off, leaving the manager just inches from me doing something at the till. He finished then walked off, leaving me without service. Appalling!Poor value for money in my opinion, none of our large party will be returning.read more
